Analysis Of The Book 1984 And The Hunger Games

Corrupt governments, totalitarianism, and no recollection of the previous years, can describe not only the book, 1984, but also the book, the Hunger Games. The two books share many similarities, from districts to ministries and thought police to peacekeepers. These books both share a glimpse into the future after a world war. They both predict that the futuristic societies will be separated into parts, the upper class being very wealthy and receiving many advantages, and the lower class working to support themselves and the upper class in terrible working conditions. During both of these novels, their people are constantly being watched, there is surveillance cameras everywhere. These two books share many similarities but the most†¦show more content†¦Every year the capital holds the hunger games, where two people from each of the 12 districts (two per district) compete against each other for lifes. Katniss’ sister Primrose is picked to compete, heroically, Katniss s teps in and competes in her place. Katniss and her partner, Peeta, win the Hunger Games by going against the government. The government becomes very upset with this and is now out to get Katniss and her family. The first similarity that I noticed between the two books would be the characters. Winston portrays the protagonist of the novel, as does Katniss. Winston and Katniss are both figures of rebellion. They are both choosing to rebel against their governments. Neither of them like the principles that their government forces upon them and are willing to do anything to make a change. Ultimately, they both get caught by their governments, and the government also takes their loved ones. Not only doe Winston and Katniss show similarities but so do their significant others, Julia and Peeta. Julia and Peeta do not like the government either, but are not willing to go as far as Winston and Katniss are. Julia and Peeta both love their significant others until they are captured by their go vernments. They are both tortured and trained into hating their significant other and loving the government.
